Position Summary

The Clinical Director – Little Rock (CD-LR) is a clinical/administrative position whose primary function is exercising general oversight and strategic leadership of the JBU Community Counseling Clinic – Little Rock within the Department of Graduate Counseling (DGC) in keeping with the University’s mission and Christian distinctive. This position reports directly to the DGC’s Executive Clinical Director (ECD). It is a part-time position working 20 hours/week. The primary office of this position is in the CCC-LR on the JBU campus in Little Rock, AR. Travel throughout the region is required. Includes evening and weekend work as needed.

Role qualifications

  • Strong ability to create good will with staff, faculty, and students; servant attitude.
  • Licensed (or license eligible) as a counselor (or marriage and family therapist) in the state of Arkansas.
  • Relevant supervisor experience and credentials.
  • A desire to equip counselors, through culturally responsive and culturally relevant pedagogy, to serve a diverse set of clients
  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Managing and overseeing the CCC-LR operations and facilities.
  • Managing, supervising, and orienting all CCC-LR trainees, staff, graduate assistants (GAs), contracted employees, and faculty using the CCC-Little Rock.
  • Developing, assessing, and revising CCC-Little Rock policies, procedures, records, site/student data, activity logs, evaluations, and contracts in collaboration with ECD.  
  • Ensuring the CCC-Little Rock is operating within ethical and legal guidelines of professional counseling practice as well as DGC policies and procedures for clinical training, including:
    • Ensuring each JBU trainee placed at the CCC-Little Rock receives weekly individual/triadic supervision.
    • Ensuring the provision of on-site licensed clinical coverage during CCC-Little Rock open hours.
  • Establishing referral resources and developing strategic partnerships with counseling agencies and professionals.
  • Collaborate with the DGC faculty and staff to best serve student and program needs.
  • Other duties and travel as assigned.

This position requires flexibility to work some weekday evenings and the occasional weekend.

Essential skills and experience 

  • Experience directing or leading a counseling practice/clinic.
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Fully Licensed Counselor and Clinical Supervisor in Arkansas. CACREP accreditation is preferred.
  • Approved Clinic Supervisor or state license in supervision preferred.

Education

  • Minimum of Master's degree in Counseling or related field.

Reporting to this position:

  • Community Counseling Clinic staff (Front Desk Administrator and/or Clinic Graduate Assistant)
  • Practicum Student serving in the clinic

Physical demands and work environment

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

FRINGE BENEFITS

  • $200 per year in professional development funds and appropriate release time for continuing education and clinical training. Additional Funds may be available upon request and approval. Approved by ECD.
  • Rent-free access to the CCC-LR for the purpose of developing a private, individual, independent counseling and/or supervision practice.
    • Services related to this independent practice must be provided during “closed” clinic hours so as not to interfere with training schedules and clinical duties as described above.
    • Any/all independent services or work that falls outside of this job description must be performed outside of the 20-hour work week.  
  • Rent-free storage of clinical files related to counseling services provided.
